How Vinyl Pool Liners Work

Vinyl pool liners are the waterproof membrane that lines the interior of an inground or above-ground pool. They sit against the pool’s structure — typically steel, aluminum, or polymer panels for inground pools — and form the finished surface you see and touch. Liners come in two primary formats:

Overlap liners — drape over the pool wall and are held in place by coping strips. Common in above-ground pools.
Beaded liners — snap into a track (bead receiver) at the top of the pool wall. The standard for most inground vinyl pools.
